Club History

With the increasing requirements for high standard facilities and the need to compete with other clubs in the County, principally in Hereford who were attracting the town’s best players, Leominster Town and Leominster United (formerly Dales United) decided to amalgamate in 1994 and 3 years later the new town facilities at Bridge Street Park opened.

Leominster Town Ladies are now part of the Club, forming in 2005 following an establishment period as a youth side in the Herefordshire Girls league. The Ladies play in the Kidderminster and District Ladies League and won honours in their second season when they beat Droitwich Spa ladies 2 – 1 in the final of the League Cup.

The Club’s Future development

The Club has set out its aim:

“To provide opportunities for men and women to represent Leominster and surrounding district at the highest possible level of football and support players and junior teams in the most effective way possible.“

To enable this it has set itself the following objectives

The Club will seek:

  • To secure the support of the local community and businesses;
  • To undertake fundraising;
  • To support those involved in managing junior teams, taking on the role of provider where necessary;
  • To promote the health benefits of active sport; and
  • To maintain the highest level of sportsmanship.

At the top of the priorities for 2007/8 is the target to secure a long-term lease of the main pitch at Bridge Street Sports Centre in order to retain and enhance the facility for the town’s footballers. Also in 2007/8 it is intended to build up the base of players in order to run a Reserves side in the 2008/9 season.

We will continue to facilitate women’s and girl’s football through developing the links made over the past two years with Leominster Town Ladies and Leominster Town Girls.

The Club also intends to develop stronger links with youth teams, in particular the Under 18’s team run by Leominster Minors, to facilitate the retention of footballing talent within the Town and also with the Minster College.

The Club will also continue to assist the Leominster Cups Committee in organising the Senior and Junior Cup competitions.

The Club needs the support of its young players, supporters and the people of Leominster during this time and hopes that they will all support its efforts which should lead to a brighter future for all in the coming years.
